Squats

Squats may be one of the most popular exercises you will see in a gym, but I will argue they are one of the most common to be performed incorrectly, improperly, and downright dangerously. From bending through the spine, keeping the weight way back on the heels, to bending the hips before the knees or the knee before the hips. A well performed squat is an amazing exercise for your legs and trunk. It can be easily modified to decrease or increase difficulty with or without additional equipment. It can be modified into a full body workout and modified to increase complexity working additional joints muscles to fatigue. You could design an entire workout around squats to include cardio and strengthening, straight plane movement and rotation, shoulders, hips, abs, pelvic floor, and everything in between. A squat should be part of every workout routine in some capacity, if only to make sure you are strong enough to get out of a chair independently as you get older. So check out the video below and check your form. Make sure you perform every squat with excellent form and then start modifying to increase complexity and difficulty.

You can tell I love squats, what is your favorite exercise?
