FAQs

  • Your first session is the evaluation where your provider gets to know you and starts figuring out the root causes of your symptoms. Your visit will start with a conversation between you and your provider. This is your chance to share everything you know about your symptoms with your provider. When did the symptoms start? How long have you experienced these symptoms? How do they affect you on a daily basis? What are your goals?

Then your therapist will watch you move, test your strength, balance, and look at anything else they feel will help determine your underlying why. If agreeable, we may perform a pelvic muscle assessment for a better understanding of your pelvic floor specifically.

Throughout the visit your therapist will explain things we can address and recommendations for your future. Your visit wraps up with answering questions and giving you a plan to meet your goal.

  • Many of our clients have seen someone else, but New Journey Physical Therapy is different. Our therapists have completed advanced continuing education and specialize in pelvic health, pregnancy, and postpartum care. We have seen simple and complex cases and have yet to see a case we could not help. From day one, we customize our treatment plan to you to help you get the results you need to meet your goals.

  • No! Kegels will never address the underlying why, often do not help, and can even make symptoms worse. At New Journey Physical Therapy, your treatment will be much more than “just kegel”.

  • Yes! Our clinic is a specialty clinic where your therapist will be focused on you and your care the entire session. You will not work with an aide or receive any passive treatments (like biofeedback). You will work one-on-one with your therapist to find the root cause of your symptoms, develop a customized plan of care, and fully reach your goals.

  • No! At New Journey, we work with people throughout the lifespan. Pregnancy and postpartum are two stages when pelvic floor therapy is particularly beneficial, but we work with people who have never had children, are trying to conceive, are currently pregnant, are postpartum, had children years ago, and who never intend to have children. Pelvic floor therapy is for everyone!

  • Item No! In Illinois we can evaluate you and treat you without a referral. We are qualified to confirm that your symptoms are able to be addressed with physical therapy and will refer you to your primary care provider or to another provider if you would benefit from further medical care. No provider should be able to gate keep your access to any care that you will benefit from.description
